The Premier Record of 2025: Rosalía's Masterpiece Takes the Number One Position.

At first glance, this work could seem more like a difficult university quiz rather than the latest pop record from a musician who just had a last hit featured a global K-pop icon. Split into four separate parts and sung in 13 languages, we have a dizzying classical-tinged opus that delves into feminine mystique, spiritual ascent, and bodily transformation, frequently via the lens of different female saints. The dissolution of a love affair—a theme handled with raw honesty on another major 2025 album—soars skyward on this record, carried by the lush sound of a full orchestra and contributions from an award-winning composer among a long roll call of collaborators. Its sheer daring alone makes the efforts of other pop stars appear quite small.

Transcending Scholarly Exercise

The fact that this album manages to escape dry intellectual posturing feels nearly a miracle, and full credit going to Rosalía. Although this is not the first time project to fuse the past and the present, the scale feel much higher on Lux, with the tightrope walk more pronounced. The element that truly elevates this fourth release, beyond its multilayered melodies, dense arrangements, and engrained drama, is an essential spirit of joy. Much like the iconic artist at her height, you find a captivating sense to the vocalist's voice which sweeps you up in its whirlwind. When she is breaking your heart apart, you still desire to stay alongside her through the journey.

A Prime Example of Joy

This playful energy comes forth brightly on the stunning piano-led ballad about Saint Clare. It bathes in a string-drenched melancholy for more than four moments. Suddenly, everything drops silent, and there's a spontaneous laugh and a declaration prior to a hilariously exaggerated orchestral crescendo crashes down with comedic impact. The track immediately shifts into the frenetic single featuring galloping orchestration, an imposing choir, and a cameo appearance from the artist herself.

"The charm of this album lies in the listener never quite know—nor wish to predict—where you will go next."

Almost each song finishes at a completely different place from how it started. One moment explores the transient nature of fame over a featherlight symphony before disintegrating in electronic chaos. Elsewhere, a cut that recalls the artist's previous rhythmic work starts out moody and sinister, with menacing vocals, until fluttering flamenco handclaps and a heavenly choir arrive to soften the song's rough edges.

The Balance Of Experiment & Pop

A key balancing act on the album involves straddling the gap of radical innovation and mainstream appeal. It is little coincidence that the album has achieved her highest-charting release to break into the upper reaches of major markets: its heart contains a collection of utterly catchy pop songs. One track performed primarily in English builds on a refrain that seems to collect increasingly infectious melodies as it spirals skyward. This feat is repeated by another expansive track that grows and contracts, weaving layered melodies as a complex weave.

  • A waltz-like song charms via its jaunty, theatrical drama and an anthemic chorus.
  • In its words, it shares the cultural impact of other heartbreak anthems, lambasting an ex- lover labeled an "psychological terrorist".
  • Across these tracks, the singing carry a sharp edge, akin to a fairy-tale character concealing a blade: "Gold medal in acting like a scoundrel / You have the podium of disappointment."

A Maximalist Banquet for the Soul

This album is pop on a maximalist scale, a hungry grasp for capital-A Art amid of looming artificial sameness. It eschews solipsism in favor of glorious elevation, creating an over-the-top drama that skillfully controls its inherent excess. It is an abundant well of buried treasure that takes time to completely mine but never seem like hard work. Where other major pop albums of 2025 seemed like a meager meal, this record offers a sumptuous banquet at which the guests around it, perhaps tipsy on sacred drink, flit from conversations about historical figures, the galvanizing sensation of soul-shattering grief, and shared stories about useless men. It is a modern-day musical from music's most restlessly inventive visionary.
